Wes Clark no longer a Tiger

One piece of Missouri's basketball scholarship puzzle for next year is known. In a statement released moments ago, the school announced that junior guard Wes Clark is no longer a member of the basketball program.

"Wes Clark has failed to meet the academic expectations of the Mizzou Athletics Department and is no longer a member of the men's basketball program. Due to this issue relating to academics, Mizzou Athletics will have no further comment."

No further details were about Clark's dismissal, but PowerMizzou.com is told that this is a decision made by the athletic department. Clark played 22 minutes in Missouri's last game, on Saturday against Tennessee.

Clark had played in all 25 games this year and was averaging 9.8 points and three assists, both second-best on the team. The Detroit native averaged 4.1 points in 33 games as a freshman and 10.1 in 23 games before missing the end of his sophomore season with a dislocated elbow suffered at South Carolina.

With Clark out of the picture, Mizzou now has 13 scholarship players scheduled to be on the roster next season, including all three members of the 2016 recruiting class. That puts the Tigers at the NCAA limit, though they must forego one scholarship in one of the next two years as part of self-imposed sanctions related to an NCAA investigation.

The Tigers and South Carolina Gamecocks tip off at 6 p.m. at Mizzou Arena. PowerMizzou.com will have continuing coverage of both the game and Clark's dismissal following the contest.
