Strong set to arrive

UPDATED AT 3:24 PM

The on-again, off-again future between Mizzou and Natereace Strong is on again. This time, for good. On Wednesday afternoon, Strong was admitted to the University as a student.

Earlier on Wednesday, A source familiar with the situation told PowerMizzou.com that Strong was academically qualified and set to be admitted to school at Missouri. Strong confirmed via text message at that time that he was cleared to be on campus this fall.

Strong originally committed to the Tigers out of East St. Louis High School in the Class of 2015. Strong did not sign with Mizzou that February, instead leaving high school for Hinds (MS) Community College last January. Strong has been working toward an associate’s degree since. He signed with the Tigers this past February as part of the 2016 recruiting class, Mizzou’s first under Barry Odom.

In early June, multiple media outlets, including PowerMizzou.com, reported that Strong would not be eligible for this season and would not report to campus until at least December. However, in the interim, something changed. Specific details of the situation are unknown at this point in time.

What is known is that the Tigers will add a player who was ranked as the nation’s No. 26 running back and No. 227 overall player out of high school two years ago. Strong had 15 carries for 102 yards at Hinds as a freshman. More recently, he was ranked as the No. 15 junior college prospect in last year's class. Strong is expected to have four years to play three at Mizzou.

The running back position is wide open in year one under Odom. Ish Witter is Mizzou’s leading returning rusher, but Strong and Oklahoma graduate transfer Alex Ross should push for early carries. Incoming freshman Damarea Crockett, redshirt freshman Ryan Williams, sophomore Trevon Walters and walk-on junior Shawn Conway could also be part of the rotation.

Missouri takes the stage at SEC Media Days in Hoover, Alabama next Wednesday. Fall camp is expected to begin in the first week of August.
