Odom gets first commitment

Barry Odom landed his first commitment as head coach at Missouri when Dallas (Texas) South Oak Cliff defensive end Marvin Terry picked Mizzou over Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and others while in Columbia on his official visit.

Just days after he was hired Odom was in Dallas with assistant coach Ryan Walters for an in-home visit with the number 23 ranked weakside defensive end.

"We had a great home visit," Terry told PowerMizzou earlier this week.

Terry set up his official visit while hosting Odom and Walters and on that official visit he made his decision to commit to Mizzou.

"Everything is family oriented. Everything at Mizzou is built for you to succeed," Terry said about why he committed to Missouri in a text to PowerMizzou.

Where Terry plays on Mizzou's defense is not set at this point. In high school he played mostly on the line. Rivals mid-south recruiting analyst Jason Howell gave PowerMizzou a quick breakdown of what Marvin Terry will bring to Missouri.

"Terry is a speed guy off the edge. He's played some linebacker, but he's been most effective as a defensive end," Howell said. "Whether he is coming out of a two point stance or four point or a three point…whatever he's coming out of he does a great job of getting that outside edge, cutting the edge and getting pressure in the backfield."

"Really a speed guy and he uses that speed to his advantage. He's a little bit undersized as a defensive end being right around 6-foot-2. He's definitely earned a reputation in the state of Texas. Terry has been a starter on that South Oak Cliff defense for a number of years," continued Howell.

"He's definitely most comfortable at defensive end. If he can get more comfortable with linebacker that would eventually be more suiting to his size. He's always had a knack for making plays at defensive end. He's a natural pass rusher and seems to see things develop a little better there then he does at linebacker," Howell finished.

Terry is commitment 16 for Missouri in the 2016 class. He joins DeMarkus Acy as the second commit from the Dallas metro area. He is the fifth commitment overall from Texas.

If Mizzou signs all five Texas commits it would be the most players from the Lone Star state since 2012. PowerMizzou will have more on the Tigers most recent commit going forward.
