McQuitty not worried about the wait

It took a little longer than he probably would have liked, but that’s not going to ruin the moment for Jaevon McQuitty. The Columbia (Mo.) Battle wide receiver had made it known for a while that he wanted an offer from the home town Missouri Tigers and today he got his wish.

It would have been understandable for the 2017 four-star prospect to be a little disgruntled that Mizzou was the 11th school to offer him, but he gave no indication that was the case when he spoke with PowerMizzou.com tonight.

“It feels great,” said McQuitty about getting the Mizzou offer. “It just feels good for them to acknowledge me. It just feels good to have an offer from my hometown team. It just feels really good.”

McQuitty was notified by Andy Hill this morning that he should call the Missouri wide receivers coach tonight. That in itself was a little bit of surprise because communication between the two had been intermittent recently.

Not sure what to expect, McQuitty called and hoped for the best.

“I called him and he told me they need playmakers and they think I am. Then he offered me a scholarship to Mizzou,” explained McQuitty. “It was all a surprise.”

Surprise or not. Late or not. The idea of playing within five minutes of his home is something that he is thankful he has the option to do now. And so is McQuitty’s family.

“My whole family is really, really excited. I think they’d like me to stay around, but I’m not really sure yet,” he said.

With offers from 10 Power 5 schools now, McQuitty has several very good options to choose from and he plans to take his time with the process.

He plans to take some official visits in the fall and then he will sit down and evaluate each school that as offered him. McQuitty will look at what each school offers and the wide receivers coaches.

The wide receiver coach evaluation should turn out well for Missouri as McQuitty and Hill have known each other since the junior was in 9th grade.

“When Alex [Ofodile] was getting recruited I would go with him sometimes and chop it up with coach Hill,” said McQuitty. “Just talk with him. He’s a real funny and cool person. He’s real hip and young still. I like that about him and how he’s energetic all the time.”

Next up for the Battle Spartan is Mizzou Junior Day. McQuitty will make the short drive over to the MATC on Saturday, February 27 and have his first meetings with the new Missouri coaches.

He is especially looking forward to meeting Josh Heupel and learning more about what type of offense the Tigers will run going forward, but he’s also wanting to meet all the new coaches.

“I just want to see the type of offense they’ll run and talk to the OC. Just talking to [Barry] Odom. Just talking with all the coaches and getting a feel for them,” explained McQuitty.

PowerMizzou.com will have more from Jaevon McQuitty after his junior day visit to Mizzou this Saturday.
