The Lowdown

To get more of the scoop on Elarbee, we chatted with Luke Matheson, publisher of RedWolfReport.com in the Rivals.com network. Matheson covered Elarbee the past two seasons.

PowerMizzou.com What was Elarbee's reputation like around his players and the media while in Jonesboro? What kind of personality does he have?

Luke Matheson: Elarbee and his family both were well liked. They were very personable, and easy to approach. He always took time to stop, say hi, and shake your hand before or after game if you were in the media and he saw you.

The players loved him, and he got production out of his guys. Sometimes you hear players complaining about a coach for whatever reason, I never heard anything but compliments for Elarbee from his guys.

PM: What were his roles as co-offensive coordinator for the Red Wolves?

LM: He would help with game planning, but on game day he was all about the offensive line. Walt Bell (OC who is now at Maryland) and head coach Blake Anderson had most control over play calling during the game.

PM: What schemes or tendencies did he show with his offensive line, in terms of blocking styles, techniques, etc.?

LM: Elarbee kept it simple as did the rest of the offense for the line. If the offense couldn't run a play out of some base blocking schemes for the line, they didn't run them.

PM: What areas did Elarbee recruit, and what was his reputation on the recruiting trail?

LM: Elarbee recruited in Texas really well. He once coached at Houston so he had a lot of contacts and success there ans in the Dallas areas. He helped A-State land a few kids with Big 12 and Big 10 offers, to include helping to flip one player from Kansas just before NSD 2015.

PM: Finally, in your opinion, what kind of coach is Missouri getting in Elarbee?

LM: Missouri is getting a coach who is young and eager to make a name for himself. He is a hard worker, and serious about winning. His players like and respect him, and he will get the job done. He is a guy Blake Anderson tried very hard to keep at Arkansas State.
